FTM here… when do any of you experienced mammas actually start letting your LO eat deli meat? From what I’ve read it’s mostly avoided because of nitrates and high sodium. But what if you get a low sodium one and a brand that doesn’t add nitrates (Boar’s Head)? My friend said she didn’t know you weren’t supposed to and started at 8-9 months. I was out to lunch with her and I had ordered a turkey sandwich and gave my LO some of the turkey and he LOVED it. So, if I get a good brand with low sodium, can he eat that? Just looking for easy lunches to add into rotation

@asmith1828,
we’ve been letting her taste pretty much anything within reason at this point!

I feed it to my guy all the time ♀️ I don’t worry about that stuff though. I also ate it while pregnant. I believe everything in moderation is key

@Mamabear0730,
hah! I actually did too. Like once a week I would get a Jersey Mike’s sub.

@Mamabear0730,
Yup, totally ate it while pregnant. I have many food intolerances and deli meat was one way for me to get protein when I can't have a host of other protein type foods.

as long as your not feeding other “high sodium” foods for the day i think its fine! just monitor sodium total intake throughout the day. if im giving my baby something with higher sodium- i usually just try to make sure the rest of her food is super low in it

The only food you need to avoid is honey. If you're concerned about nitrates and sodium just get the low sodium and no added nitrates one like you said. Baby will be fine.
