If they can’t wield guns because they are “no longer of the people", why do they have to pay taxes that are levied against “the people”?

Oh, so they are able to pay taxes but unable to own a gun. That just does not make sense. If they are violent why were they let out?

Are rights removable? Is it ever okay to remove someone constitutional rights regardless?
Are gun rights stripped from people who commit violent acts?
Do violent criminals' actions necessitate their gun rights to be revoked? Is it okay to revoke their rights to 2A?
Should the criminals' ever have their gun rights given back after they paid their dues to society?
Once a violent felon, always a violent felon?
Has this issue ever went to the USSC? I figured at some point someone challenged it, and it went through the court system.

Are all felons violent? If not, why should a non-violent person be dis-armed upon release from prison but allowed to vote and pay taxes? It does not make sense.

You’ll need to take that complaint up with Congress and your state legislature. They’ve made the conclusion that felons should not be trusted with firearms. I personally think only felony convictions for crimes of violence should disqualify a person from owning a firearm, but I didn’t write the law.

That's why I prefaced it with "violent criminals", such as armed robbers, felony assault, murder, etc. I don't know how it works. I don't know if someone convicted of embezzlement loses their gun rights, but I'm pretty sure someone who committed armed kidnapping does.
I don't know if there's a threshold on the level of crime committed on when that triggers the gun rights being revoked..
Is it attached to the possible punishments for each law broken in the regulations/laws?? No idea...

Felons can’t vote in many states.

The rate of recidivism among criminals is very high. The law frankly makes a lot of sense, but I’d just limit it to crimes of violence. On the other hand, I’m not losing sleep over all felons not being able to legally own guns either.

Anyone who supports these restrictions on felons is not a true conservative. Show me where in the Constitution it says the government can still rob of your freedoms after you've served your debt to society. All rights should be restored once out of prison. You're as dumb as the liberals if you think a law will prevent a prior felon from obtaining a firearm and commiting a crime with it if that's what they want to do.

They’ve already demonstrated they have no reverence for the law. It’s just used as another charge to elongate their sentences when re-arrested.

True. And this is honestly understandable to me. I think most people would agree, morally, that people with this sort of character and integrity shouldn't have a say in the direction of the country.
People on the left would rather them vote because they would likely vote for "their team". Majority would. I don't think that's arguable if you look at demographics. It just is what it is... And all that is understandable as well. That's possible votes stripped away.
I get all that. I'm sure there's an argument to be made that "God given rights" of the constitution should not be removed by man.
It is interesting.
Another interesting discussion is whether or not a person with zero tax liability should be able to vote. Are these people a good compass for the direction of the country?? They will vote to remain in their current position and one side of politics encourages and supports that and would get most of their votes. This is true.

I guess you think while locked up their housing, meals, healthcare, etc were covered by all these unicorns sh*tting money all over the place.
You’re fricking right they should pay taxes, regardless of their ability to legally vote or own a gun. I didn’t make those laws so take it up with those who did.

You don't get it. What's to stop the government from making the most trivial of infractions a felony for the sole purpose of stripping their voting rights? I guess you didn't pay attention to the BS charges they pull out of thin air like they did with Trump to upgrade to felonies. You're cool with this?

And the law is quite helpful for Orleans Parish b/c the federal firearm law allows the US attorney to go after some very violent offenders who the Orleans DA cannot control.

Felons should be able to vote and own guns once their sentence is up.

I disagree. People make mistakes. Purse snatching is a felony In Louisiana. So many drug possession charges are felonies in Louisiana. There are so many bs felonies on the books. I understand not voting while incarcerated, but if a sentence is served, the punishments should stop when the sentence ends.
