How long are y’all letting your baby fuss if you’ve tried to put them down for nap or bed and they won’t fall asleep?

Sometimes my little guy needs to fuss to go to bed, not scream his head off but he’s definitely upset.

we personally don’t let him because he’s too little still! Babies are wired to need the comfort of their parents so that’s why sometimes putting them straight into the crib doesn’t work. We usually hold him until he’s asleep and then place him in his crib and he’s out like a light, no fussing. If he’s fussy it’s while he’s falling asleep but we are holding him. Hope this helps!

@ovia6977,

okay good to know, I don’t let him go over 5 mins but sometimes I’m doing something and can’t get to him immediately. I have a 2 year old too, he’s very needy, more needy than the baby

We don’t do this until we know they’ve been through their 4 month regression.

Fuss or cry? Mine grunts, wiggles, sometimes shouts/whines when she’s falling asleep and I don’t intervene with that. If it’s a full on cry I comfort her for a minute before I pick her up. I have never been able to rock her to sleep without waking her on transfer so that’s not an option for us unfortunately!

@anonmm13,

fuss, when he’s crying I’m always to him within a minute or two.

Most times right before he’s about to fall asleep he fusses and then falls asleep.

@ChrisErm,

I wouldn’t worry about it then! Sounds like he’s having one last hurrah before bed

As long as they need if it’s just fussing/whining. Crying I’ll only let go on for a couple minutes max and if it’s escalating into a frantic cry, I go in immediately. But I truly think there is such a big difference between a whiny, fussy, grunting, “I’m tired and annoyed and trying to get comfortable” and a “help me, I’m scared/hungry” full on cry!

If she’s just chilling and getting her wiggles and whines out I let her be. Whenever it escalates to a full cry is when I go get her.

She spends a lot of time on her play mat or in her siblings rooms hanging out right now so she’s pretty used to noise. So I know if she’s fussy she’s either just wanting her own bed to sleep or just gotta toot lol. Full on cries are for when she’s already pooped or hungry. But so far she’s pretty chill and will sort herself out in under 5 mins
