Alfonso Dawson Mortuary, 404-691-3810 ROSWELL Ruth Jennings, was 102 By DERRICK HENRY In her youth, Ruth Jennings was a fashion model who also helped her husband run a popular Atlanta dance spot. While in her 90s, she traveled to Europe and took friends 20 years younger for drives in her Cadillac.

"She was a person who lived in the now," said her daughter, Camille J. Johnson of Roswell. "She had the capacity to make new friends and gracefully let old ones go as they died." Ruth Hanco*ck Jennings, 102, of Roswell died of renal failure Saturday Jennings at Hospice Atlanta. The funeral is 3 p.m. today at St.

Aidan's Episcopal Church in Alpharetta. H.M. Patterson Son, Spring Hill, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Jennings grew up in Fort Gaines, moving to Atlanta in her 20s.

The petite redhead became a model. After that career faltered, she took a job as a bookkeeper with Southern Railway. At the boardinghouse where she rented a room, she met Roger H. Jennings Sr. whom she married in 1934.

The couple opened a supper club that became one of the city's most popular hangouts until it closed in the late 1950s. The Jennings Rose Room at the corner of what is now Virginia Avenue and Monroe Drive became the place for fine steaks and big band music. Mr. Jennings died in 1978. Mrs.

Jennings, who spent most of her time at home raising her two children, would go to the club for special occasions. "She loved to work in the cloakroom on New Year's Eve," said her daughter. "She'd get to see everyone coming in in their elaborate evening dresses and could handle all the pretty coats." Mrs. Jennings golfed at the Atlanta Athletic Club, went deep sea fishing off Panama City and Coral Gables, and created award-winning flower arrangements. She always dressed as the model she used to be, with everything matched down to her jewelry, her daughter said.

Mrs. Jennings became a celebrity in her church, St. Aidan's. "The congregation felt very special to know her because they had never known anyone who had lived in three centuries," said the Rev. Noel C.

Burtenshaw of Roswell. Additional survivors include a son, Roger H. Jennings Jr. of Atlanta; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Ruth H.
